Frequently Asked Questions.

What can I expect from my visits?

Your first consultation includes an in-depth medical history and discussion
of your health concerns.

After consideration of your case history, a personalized treatment plan is
designed to suit you. On the next visit the Naturopathic Doctor will perform an
appropriate physical exam and go over the treatment program with you.

Follow-up visits are booked as necessary to review progress and make
appropriate changes to your program. The number of treatments varies depending on the
severity, complexity and chronically of your condition.

If I have any questions can I call my naturopath?

Your Naturopath is available to answer questions over the phone. For a
consultation longer than 5 minutes, a fee will be charged or the Naturopath will
suggest booking an appointment.

I’m done my first 2 visits now what?

Your Naturopath has tailored a treatment plan to suit you and a usually

follow-up for a long standing problem is one month. This allows time for the nutrients

prescribed to get incorporated into the tissues, time for the homeopathic to take effect

and time for the herbs to support or detoxify the body. If you came in with an acute

condition like an ear infection or sore throat, the Naturopath would want you to call or come

back in a few days to monitor your progress. Your Naturopath should let you know how

soon you should see results.

How often will I have to come back in a year?

Because of the individuality of treatment, this question cannot be

generalized. Typically, a treatment of a chronic condition which does not require acupuncture or

craniosacral therapy may require a follow-up visits each month for a while and then

every 2-3 months. Weekly visits are required for 5 to 10 sessions of acupuncture or

craniosacral therapy to see results and determine if more visits are needed.

Why do I have to take 3-4 medicines and supplements at once and how long

will I have to take these?

If my daughter gets an ear infection in the night or on the weekend can I call?

Your Naturopath is available for naturopathic emergency care if you are
already a patient. Naturopathic medicine may work well in acute conditions such
as infections and minor injury. Please call if you need immediate help.

Once my initial health concerns clear up can we work on other health concerns I have?

Your Naturopath has focused on your primary health concern first and because of the holistic approach

of supporting or detoxifying glands, organs and tissues of the body, you may have already seen an overall

change in other areas. Once the initial health concern is improving, you can choose to visit to optimize health

by looking after other health concerns.

If my health concern is not getting better after a month or two of treatment,

does this mean naturopathic medicine is not right for me?

In a few cases, a person will not be significantly better after a month or two of treatment.

This is usually the case if the condition is chronic and the tissues need much re-building.

There may be only small improvement indicating that it is time to remove an obstacle to

cure by making a dietary or lifestyle change as a poor diet and repeated stress can influence

healing. Your Naturopath has many medicines and treatment options at her disposal.

Because of the individual nature of each patient, It may be time to change to a different

medicine or approach. By focusing on removing obstacles to cure, supporting the body

using natural therapies, and looking at the whole person, it may take time to see improvement

in your condition. The patients who benefit the most from naturopathic medicine are those

who view it as long term care rather than a quick fix to a longstanding condition.

My friend is organizing a wellness talk at my church, would my Naturopath be available?

Your Naturopath is committed to public education. She is part of a group called the

natural health alliance and is available to give seminars. The natural health alliance is a

group focused on promoting natural healing through education and includes your

Naturopath, a Massage therapist and a Reflexologist from the Burlington Naturopathic

and Wellness Clinic and a Chiropractor from Oakville who has a special

interest in women and children. Your Naturopath will speak about a specific topic

requested or may suggest a topic to fit that particular group.
